A study from 2018 showed that only .4% of all startups scale, reaching more than $10MM in Revenue within 5 years. The remaining companies stabilize, grow at a much slower rate or go out of business.

All of the companies listed above raised their headcount by 20% over the last 2 years (according to LinkedIn data) but that doesn’t necessarily qualify them as “scaleups” by the true definition. Scaleups average annualized growth greater than 20% per year, over a 3 year period. We’ve gotten the research started, but definitely continue to research and ask qualifying questions during interviews to understand the runway & long term health of any company you are considering.
